At StraightenIt, we work with you to help you get the hair that you've dreamed about. We are fully trained in the Japanese Hair Straightening treatment to ensure you get the high quality service and beautiful hair you deserve.
Open a magazine and you'll see pictures of models, all with one thing in common: Sleek and shiny hair. Unfortunately for the rest of us, when we get out of the swimming pool our hair dries into a frizzy mess. Using a straightening iron is a solution, but doing it after every shower or dip in the pool is painfully time consuming.
Are we doomed to life in front of the mirror with a flat iron?
Not at all!
Japanese hair straightening
(also known as thermal reconditioning, rebonding
or Yuko system) is a method of hair straightening.
It restructures the bonds in your hair
so that it stays straight.
This system works on most types of hair
(with afro hair being the exception).
Imagine waking up every morning to silky smooth
No more time worrying about frizz on holiday!
Below are a few before and after pictures of our clients
We start with a consultation to gain as much information as possible on the hair history, e.g. whether it has been
coloured or bleached, chemically treated,
e.g. permed or straightened, scalp condition, any irritations or allergies.
We will also perform a strand test at this stage if necessary.
If we are happy that your hair is suitable for the treatment then,
we will proceed to the next steps.
The hair is washed and blow-dried until it is around 80% dry.
A protector is applied to protect the hair. It is then saturated with a solution containing a chemical that restructures the hair bonds
that give each strand its shape and curly texture.
The solution is allowed to work in the hair for a period of time, depending on the strength of your curl,
in order to thoroughly break down the hair’s structure.
The hair is the then washed, dried, and meticulously ironed piece by piece on 1/2 inch sections,
with ceramic straightening iron.
A neutralizer is then applied to oxidize and restore the hair’s pH balance,
sealing in the moisture and locking the hair into its new straight shape.
The hair then rinsed, blow-dried, trimmed if required and ironed all over again
leaving you with glossy, smooth, straight hair.
The results are permeanent on hair that has been treated. However you may want to have a new treatment on the regrowth every 6 - 10 months or longer depending on the rate of hair growth and hair type. Many customers have a new treatment every 12 months
You should not wash your hair, tuck it behind your ears, or wear hats for 48 hours following the treatment.
Japanese hair straightening works on all types of hair. However afro caribbean hair may experience some limitations.
The minimum hair length is around 5 - 6 inches
The treatment takes between 4 - 6 hours to complete
Highlighted hair can also be straightening using this technique but this depends on a number of factors, e.g. when you last highlighted your hair, how often you highlight it, and how much highlight you have. Our technicians are highly experienced and would be able to advise you. In many cases for highlighted hair we would also perform a free strand test.
This straightening technique can be performed on coloured hair (permanent or semi-permanent) but you must leave at least two weeks between any colouring and the hair straightening treatment.
